What you get
Rabab Tuner is a mobile app made only for the Afghan rubab — also written rabab or robab. It draws your instrument, with its Katay, Bam, Zer, Shahtar and Bachi, listens while you pluck, and tells you which peg to turn, which way and how far. Alongside the tuner:
- Song to Notes — hum a tune and read it back in sargam, with the string and fret for each note
- Harmonium and tabla accompaniment in eleven taals, with its Sa taken from your own rabab
- Learn & practice — the notes, scales from the formula, and metronome exercises on your tuning
- A practice monitor for Tari and Chap strokes, and raga practice that names what you play
- Instrument care, a health check, and noise isolation for a busy room
See every feature or read the rubab tuning guide.
Installing it
- On your Android phone, open Rabab Tuner on Google Play — or search “Rabab Tuner” in the Play Store.
- Tap Install, then open it.
- Tell it about your rabab: the Shahtar and Bachi count, the frets and your tuning. It draws the instrument to match.
- Tap the microphone when you start tuning — or tune by ear: long-press any string to hear its note.
Questions
Is Rabab Tuner free to download?
Yes. It is free to download from Google Play, and the whole app is free for one month. After that it is $8 a year, billed by Google Play in your own currency, and you can cancel any time in your Play account.
Is there an iPhone version?
It is coming. The iPhone app — the same app, for iOS 15.1 or later — is on its way to the App Store. The Android version is on Google Play now.
Can I download an APK?
Please install it from Google Play only. That is the one official source, it keeps the app updated, and it is where your subscription and free month are handled.
Does it need an internet connection?
No. Tuning, accompaniment, practice and every other feature work offline. Only the optional weather look-up in Instrument care goes online, and it asks first.
